How To Fix This Copy of Windows 7 Is Not Genuine Error

Last Updated on April 23, 2020 by Next Century

If your copy of Windows is not genuine, you will get an error message and Windows will no longer work.

There is an easy fix you can apply in minutes that can get rid of this error message until you purchase a legit copy or solve your product key issue in Windows.

Follow these steps to fix

  • Click Start and type cmd in the search box

Optionally go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

  • Right-click on cmd and choose Run as administrator

  • In the command prompt box type the command below and then press Enter

If it fails, try typing in this command below (Only difference is / instead of -) and then press Enter

If this works, then you will see this message

  • Now reboot your computer and you should not see the Windows is not genuine message again for at least a couple of months

If you do this too many times, you will get:

error 0xc004d307 The maximum allowed number of rearms has been exceeded

You will need to edit the registry to get around this with the fix below but I would only advise this for advanced users and make sure you backup your registry first!

  • Click Start and type regedit in the search box, click on regedit under Programs and click Yes on User Account Control if prompted

  • In the Registry Editor, browse to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - Microsoft - Windows NT - CurrentVersion - SoftwareProtectionPlatform

  • Right click on SkipRearm

  • Click Modify and change Value Data to 1

  • Restart your computer
