Install Microsoft Office 365 on MacOS

Follow these steps to install Office 365 Home or Personal on your MacOS

  • Go to Office.com/myaccount and Sign in using your Microsoft account

    You can select Keep me signed in if you are the only user on this computer and want it to remember your Microsoft account details

    NOTE: If you do not know these details, click Forgot password? to begin recovery of your account details

  • Select Install apps to

    NOTE: This example above is for a Microsoft Office 365 Family subscription

  • If you have MacOS Sierra 10.13.6 or newer, select Install

    Otherwise, select Download Office for versions 10.10 or 10.11

  • You will be prompted Do you want to allow downloads on “account.microsoft.com”?

    Select Allow to continue the installation

  • You should then see the Microsoft install file downloaded, normally the file is something like Microsoft_Office_16.xx.xxxxxx_Installer.pkg.download

    Select this file on the Dock

    This will then start the download of the main Microsoft 365 Apps which you can see if you select Downloads

    NOTE: This is normally at least a 1.5GB file so it can take a while with slow internet to download

  • Once the Microsoft Office installer has finished downloading, select the file to begin the install of Microsoft Office

  • Introduction

    Select Continue

  • Licence

    Select Continue

    Then select Agree to the terms of the software licence

  • Installation Type

    If you want to change the installation location, select Change Install Location…

    Otherwise, Select Install

    You will then be prompted for your user account password which you need to type in, then select to Install Software

  • Installation

    Now you will see it Writing files and Running package scripts with an estimated the installation time

  • Installation Successful

    When complete, you will see The installation was successful

    Select Close

    Then to clean up the install files, select Move to Trash

  • You can now use the Microsoft Apps Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, OneNote & Outlook

    The first time you use one of the apps, you will be prompted to Sign in with your Microsoft Account which is part of the activation process.
