How To Uninstall, Disable and Remove Windows Defender in Windows 7 or 8

If you’re already running a full anti-malware suite, you might not even realise that Windows Defender is already installed with Windows, and is probably wasting precious resources. Also, if you are already running something that provides great anti-malware protection, there’s no need to have more than one application running at a time.

Follow these steps to disable Windows Defender in Windows 7 or 8

  • Open Windows Defender by clicking on Windows Start and type in defender in the search box.  Then click on Windows Defender

  • Select Tools on the menu and then select Options

  • Under Options, select Administrator tab in the left-hand pane and then untick Use this program check box to disable or tick to enable. When you are done, click the Save button.

    If you have unticked to disable Windows Defender, then you will see the confirmation screen that it is turned it off.
