Many of us have experienced a situation where we have created a Word document and then accidentally closed it out without saving it. Is it lost forever? Do I have to recreate the entire document over?

Those are just a few of the questions that will be flying around in your head. Take a deep breath, and follow the steps below to recover your document.

  • Click the File > Info

  • Select Manage Document or Manage Version for older Microsoft Office and select Recover Unsaved Documents

  • The Open dialog box opens displaying a list of your unsaved recoverable Word documents. Select the Word document you wish to recover and click the Open button.

NOTE:  If the document you want to recover is not there, unfortunately it is lost and you will probably have to use recovery software or seek professional IT services to recover the file.

  • The recovered Word document is now open and there should be an information banner across the top recommending that you Save the file by selecting Save As

Not only have you recover your document quickly, but it is also saved for future access.
