Show Hidden Files and Folders in Windows 7, 8 and 10

CAUTION: Windows stores many important settings in hidden files and folders. Do not modify or delete hidden files if you do not know precisely what will happen as a result. Next Century assumes no liability for data loss that occurs as a result of this procedure.
This guide will explain how to show hidden files and folders on your hard drive file system.

Follow these steps for Windows 7 & 8

  • Click on Start and click on Control Panel on the right menu

  • Type “folder” into the search bar and select Show hidden files and folders

  • Then click on the View tab at the top of the window

  • Under Advanced Settings, locate Hidden files and folders, then select Show hidden files and folders just below that

  • Click OK and hidden files will now be shown when performing searches in Windows Explorer

Follow these steps for Windows 10

  • Right click on Start  and then click on File Explorer

  • Click on View and in the Show/hide section, tick Hidden items

  • Simply click on Hidden items again to reverse this and hide hidden files
