Upgrade to the new Microsoft Edge

In January 2020, Microsoft have released a new Microsoft Edge based on Chromium and is compatible with all supported versions of Windows, and macOS.

Downloading the browser will replace the legacy version of Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 PCs.

The new Edge browser has improved performance, best in class compatibility for websites and extensions, and built-in privacy and security features.

Follow this guide to update your Microsoft Edge browser

  • Download the Microsoft Edge update installation file from the Microsoft Edge website

    If you are not using Windows 10, click the down arrow to select the version for your operating system, then click on Download

  • To continue with the installation, you need to click on Accept and Download¬†

  • If you are installing the update from the current Microsoft Edge, you will then need to click on Run to continue with the update

    Google Chrome – Click on the MicrosoftEdgeSetup.exe which has downloaded bottom left of the browser

    Mozilla Firefox – Click on the download arrow top right and you should see the MicrosoftEdgeSetup.exe file which you need to open

  • You should then be prompted with the User Account Control box and need to click on Yes to continue the update

  • You will then see the Downloading Microsoft Edge box

  • Once Microsoft Edge has finished downloading, click on Close and continue

  • Next the new Microsoft Edge will install

  • Once Microsoft Edge has finished checking your credentials and signing you in, you will then see Welcome to the new Microsoft Edge.

    Click on Get Started to continue

  • Now you need to select the style of your new tab page (home page when browser opens)

    Select either Inspirational, Informational or Focused

    Then click on Confirm

  • You need to either click on Sign in to sync data or Continue without Signing-in to complete the update

    NOTE: This screen is slightly different if you have Chrome installed, it will instead ask you if you want to migrate all your Chrome settings

  • You have now successfully updated to the new Microsoft Edge browser
